Massage for Stress and Tension in Camrose

When tension has stopped responding to a good night’s sleep.

What Sustained Stress Does Physically

Prolonged stress keeps the nervous system in a state of readiness it was designed to enter briefly. Muscles hold a low-grade contraction, breathing gets shallower and higher into the chest, the jaw clenches, and the shoulders sit a little closer to the ears than they should.

None of that is dramatic on its own. Held for months, it produces very familiar complaints: a neck and shoulders that never quite loosen, tension headaches, a jaw that aches, poor sleep, and a general sense of being braced.

Massage works on that directly. Sustained, rhythmic pressure at a comfortable depth is one of the more reliable ways to shift the nervous system out of that state, and the muscular relief follows from it.

Where It Shows Up

Neck and shoulders

The most common site. Upper trapezius and levator scapulae holding all day.

Jaw and temples

Clenching, often unnoticed until someone presses on it. See massage for TMJ.

Upper back and breathing

Shallow chest breathing loads the neck and mid-back over time.

Being Realistic About What Massage Does

Massage treats the physical expression of stress. It does not treat the cause, and it is not a substitute for dealing with what is actually going on.

For most people who are simply under sustained pressure, that physical relief is genuinely valuable — an hour where the body stops bracing has real effects on sleep and on how manageable everything feels.

Where the difficulty is more than everyday stress — persistent low mood, anxiety that interferes with daily life, or difficulty coping — that deserves proper support. We have psychology services at the clinic, and your family physician is a good starting point. Massage alongside that is helpful; massage instead of it is not.

Swedish or relaxation massage is usually the better fit than deep tissue. The aim is downregulation, not working hard on one spot.
Sixty minutes for a full-body session. Ninety if you want it genuinely unhurried, which for this purpose is worth it.
Every four to six weeks suits most people for maintenance. During a particularly demanding period, more often for a while is reasonable.
No. Tell your therapist at the start if you would rather it be quiet. It is a very normal request and no one will find it odd.

I have been seeing Hiya for my physio since a fall and a car accident. She is lovely and goes above and beyond for her clients, you can truly see she is passionate about her work. The front desk girls are all wonderful too! Always so nice, and remember you by name, greetings everyone as they come in the door. I have nothing but wonderful things to say about my experience.
