Transform Your Life with Central Physiotherapy & Massage Physiotherapy

Say Goodbye To Hip and Knee Pain!

Does hip make it difficult to get up in the mornings, move about during the day, and lie back down at night?

Are your knees feel painful, or even feel as if they may buckle underneath you without warning?

Hip and knee pain can seriously interfere with your life, especially if you are dealing with both. Whichever may be hurting you, physiotherapy can help get to the root of your problem safely and comfortably, without the need for harmful drugs or surgery.

Causes of Hip Pain

Hip pain can significantly impact your quality of life. Understanding the common causes is the first step to finding relief. Here are the most common causes of hip pain:

  • Osteoarthritis is a leading cause of hip pain, resulting from the degeneration of joint cartilage over time. This degenerative process can lead to inflammation, stiffness, and decreased mobility, making daily activities more challenging.
  • Bursitis, an inflammation of the bursa sacs that cushion the hip joint, is another common cause of hip pain. Repetitive stress or direct trauma can trigger bursitis, causing sharp pain during movement and tenderness when pressure is applied.
  • Hip labral tears are also a frequent source of hip pain, involving damage to the cartilage ring surrounding the hip socket. Athletes and active individuals are particularly susceptible to labral tears, which can cause deep, nagging pain in the hip or groin area.
  • Hip impingement, or femoroacetabular impingement (FAI), occurs when there is abnormal contact between the ball and the socket of the hip joint. This can lead to cartilage damage, limited range of motion, and persistent pain, especially during activities that require hip flexion.
  • Muscle strains and tendonitis can also contribute to hip pain, as overuse or sudden force can strain the muscles and tendons surrounding the hip joint. This can result in pain, inflammation, and reduced function in the affected area.

Causes of Knee Pain

Understanding the common causes of knee pain is crucial for identifying the most effective treatments and regaining control of your body’s harmony. Our physiotherapists at Central Physiotherapy can help using our holistic approach to knee pain relief.

Knee pain can be caused by a variety of factors; however, the most common cau

  • Arthritis: The most common type of arthritis for knee pain is osteoarthritis (OA). This condition occurs when the cartilage surrounding your joints deteriorates, and the joint no longer has a sufficient cushion between the bone. This leads to joint inflammation, with varying pain levels, stiffness, and reduced mobility.
  • Cartilage Injuries: There are two common cartilage injuries, meniscus injury, and articular cartilage injury: If you twist your knee quickly while bearing weight or sustain other trauma, the cartilage may be injured. It is also possible for prolonged inactivity or repetitive movements to cause fraying and eventually tearing of the cartilage.
  • Ligament Injuries: Our bones are connected by ligaments, which act like leather straps to hold the bones together and keep your knee stable. Ligament injuries are often caused by sudden stops and twists or direct blows to the knee.
  • Tendinitis: Your tendons are thick connective tissues that attach muscles to bones. Tendinitis occurs when the tendon becomes inflamed due to repetitive movements. It is common in jumping and landing motions and sports like skiing, cycling, or hurdling. The patellar tendon connects the patella (kneecap) to the shinbone, allowing you to kick, run, and jump. Patellar tendinitis is common in runners, skiers, cyclists, and those engaging in jumping sports. Knee tendinitis can make walking, rising from a chair, climbing stairs, or playing sports hard.
  • Patellar Dislocation: A condition in which the kneecap slides out of place, often caused by a sudden change in direction or twisting of the knee.

The  hip and knee can alert you to a problem in the foot, lumbar spine or sacroiliac joint.  Thorough an in-depth assessment by our holistic physiotherapists at Central Physiotherapy & Massage is the best way to determine the actual cause of your hip & knee pain.
