Our psychologist can provide comprehensive assessment of psychological wellbeing, including cognitive, emotional, behavioural and interpersonal areas. Psychologists are able to diagnose mental disorders and provide the appropriate treatment to help you regain your mental health and wellbeing.
Taking the first step toward therapy is an act of courage. Our individual therapy services provide personalized, compassionate support for navigating life’s challenges, including trauma, anxiety, depression, anger, and somatic concerns.
Psychology is the science of human behaviour and is applied as a mental health profession that takes a holistic approach to care, incorporating thoughts, feelings and behaviours that affect physical, mental and social factors to help enhance wellbeing.
Our psychologists are qualified to assess adult behaviour, diagnose psychological and emotional disorders, and provide scientifically proven therapies to individuals and groups to help you reduce symptoms, improve coping and abilities, and enhance overall wellbeing.
Psychologists will perform an assessment to determine the root cause of the issue and develop an individualized treatment plan that will determine a therapeutic approach to support personal, social, and vocational development.
Assessment
A variety of assessments may be conducted to address different issues related to mental health, personality, and cognitive functioning, such as memory and attention. The results of the assessment help to understand the presenting problem, its causes, its impact and its treatment options. Feedback is provided to help increase self-awareness and to establish a collaborative way forward.
Treatment
Psychological services can include psychotherapy for anxiety, depression, grief, burnout, trauma/PTSD, substance abuse and other addictions, interpersonal relationship issues, and adjustment to medical conditions, including chronic pain and post-concussion.
Assessments include an interview to understand the nature, severity, and causal factors for the issues being assessed. Standardized tests may also be given to gather additional details and identify individual strengths. Tests may involve answering true/false questions, rating or comparing lists, or conducting specific tasks with your hands.
Psychologists adopt a nonjudgmental approach, adjusting their style to meet client needs.
Psychologists may collaborate with a primary care provider as well as other mental health professionals such as occupational therapists and social workers, when relevant, in order to provide you with comprehensive care.
Your psychologist can help treat several different mental and behavioral health conditions, as well as help you cope with various life stressors. These issues can be long-term or short-term.
Situations and conditions you can see a psychologist for include:
Results vary depending on the type and degree of the condition or disorder being treated. Some conditions may show improvement in as early as 2-3 sessions, while others may require 8-12 sessions.
Progress is closely tracked as psychologists use objective measures to monitor change.
While it can be difficult and overwhelming to seek help for mental health and behavioural conditions, it’s essential that you do so. Mental health conditions are very common, and your mental health and emotional health are just as important as your physical health
